What kind of career’s advice did you get as a young woman?
What did you want to be when you left education?
Did your mother work?
Love & Relationships:
Do you think getting married is important?
What did you dream your future partner would be like when you were a little girl?
Is your relationship with your partner the same as your parents’ relationship?
How like your mother are you?
What are your hopes for any daughters or young women you know?
THAT THEY LIVE FULFILLED LIVES.
Do you bring your son up the same way as your daughter? Do you think boys and girls should be brought up differently?
I ONLY HAVE A DAUGHTER AND SHE WAS NOT BROUGHT UP AS A GIRLIE GIRL. FUNDAMENTALLY I THINK A CHILD SHOULD BE REARED ACCORDING TO ITS INDIVIDUAL NEEDS WITH NO DEFINED GENDER DIFFERENTIATION.
Expectations and Dreams:
Who are your heroines and why?
NOT SURE I CAN BE SPECIFIC, JUST REALLY RESPECT WOMEN WHO HAVE ACHIEVED GREAT AND GOOD THINGS IN THEIR VARIED LIVES AND IN THEIR FIELDS, PARTICULARLY WHEN AGAINST ALL ODDS, BE THOSE ODDS PHYSICAL OR SOCIETAL. FOR EXAMPLE, I CURRENTLY VOLUNTEER IN A SOUP KITCHEN WHICH WAS STARTED BY A JAMAICAN WOMEN OUT OF HER OWN POCKET, SHE IS NOW 86 AND HAS BEEN FEEDING THE NEEDY FOR 26 YEARS, SHE ASKS FOR NOTHING IN RETURN, HUMBLING AND IMPRESSIVE.
What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever done?
DIFFICULT QUESTION BECAUSE I HAVE HAD AN EVOLVING LIFETIME OF DOING THINGS WHICH COULD BE VIEWED AS BRAVE OR JUST THE NECESSARY THING AT THE TIME OR JUST PLAIN STUPID.
What drives you?
LIVING AS FULL A LIFE AS I CAN IN THE TIME I HAVE LEFT.
What are your values?
INTEGRITY IS SOMETHING I PARTICULARLY VALUE AND JUST TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING.
How old are you?
What has been your favourite age to be and why?
NOW, BECAUSE OF WHAT’S POSSIBLE TOMORROW
Do you think it’s better to be young now than when you were young? (Or better now than when your parents were young?)
I WAS BORN IN 1952, SO GREW UP IN THE 50S AND 60S AND 70S WHICH WERE EXCITING AND FREEINGTIMES, I DON’T SENSE THAT THERE ARE CURRENTLY THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE OR THE ELECTIFYING ATMOSPHERE AS THEN, BUT ENTIRELY ACCEPT THAT THIS COULD BE BECAUSE I AM 64 NOW! I FEEL THAT THERE IS A DISENGAGEMENT NOW THAT DIDN’T EXIST WHEN I WAS YOUNG. I HAVE FOUND THAT INTERACTION WITH OTHER PEOPLE IS SO ENRICHING AND DON’T BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE CONTEMPORARY WAY FOR THE MOST PART.
What are the pros and cons of being a woman?
I WRITE FROM MY CONTEMPORARY SITUATION WHERE IT IS SOMETIMES DIFFICULT TO OPEN JARS WITHOUT A MAN. PERIODS WERE A TRIAL, BUT HAPPILY THAT HAS NOW PASSED.
HAVING WORKING MAINLY WITH MEN IN WHAT WAS THEN A MALE DOMINATED INDUSTRY I WAS JUST MYSELF, BUT THEN AGAIN I HAVE NEVER BEEN PARTICULARLY FEMININE (FOR WANT OF A BETTER WORD) AND NEVER TOOK ANY UNNECESSARY SHIT FROM ANYONE OF EITHER GENDER. I HAVE FOUND THAT I CAN MANOEUVRE MYSELF, LARGELY UNAIDED, OUT OF MOST ISSUES BECAUSE SELF-RELIANCE IS A GREAT BOON WHICH CAN OVERTURN LACK OF CONFIDENCE BECAUSE THINGS ARE JUST WHAT THEY ARE, BUT NOT IN A COMPLACENT SENSE.
What have been the biggest challenges in your life?
IN TRUTH I HAVE BEEN PRETTY LUCKY AND MOST CHALLENGES HAVE BEEN SELF-DRIVEN. I HAD A BIT OF A SHOCK WHEN I WAS 54 WHICH TURNED MY LIFE UPSIDE DOWN, BUT AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF DISTRESS I CHANGED MY PATH AND THAT SHOCK BECOME THE ROAD TO LIBERATION AND UNFORSEEN OPPORTUNITIES, I AM SO GLAD THAT I HAD THAT UPSET.
Self-image – Body or Looks:
Why do you dress the way that you do?
BECAUSE I ALWAYS HAVE DRESSED LIKE THIS. SAD, BUT TRUE.
What would be your musical soundtrack?
CANNOT ANSWER THAT, DIFFERENT MUSIC FOR DIFFEERENT TIMES.
Do you have a life’s motto?
